Top 5: Go-To Restaurants in Ottawa

Hey Friends!

If you’re new here then you probably wouldn’t know that I was born and raised in the capital of Canada… also welcome! Since I have lived here for so many years I believe I have good enough experiences in knowing the best places to do things in Ottawa. I would have to say that one of my favourite things to do is to try new restaurants and holes-in-the-wall because it not only gives me an idea of what’s out there but then I get to pick my personal favourites! I’ve compiled a short list of 5 different eating sanctuaries in Ottawa and why they are absolutely amazing.

To start this little list going I’ll have to go with one of the classics which has been in Ottawa for a while but has never once disappointed my taste buds. Cacao 70 has two main locations which consist of one right downtown in the Byward Market and one in Lansdowne/Glebe area. The menu consists of chocolate, maybe some more chocolate, and then some chocolate on top. The diversity of dishes with the quality makes this restaurant very popular and a real guilty pleasure! I always recommend this place to any of my visiting friends or relatives because it’s both a classic and most people like some nice chocolate from time to time… especially me!

Now for my friends out there who know me extremely well, they know that I am OBSESSED with anything and everything Milestones. This restaurant has such good food and everytime I go, I never know what to get because there is so much to choose from! The dish in the picture is one of my favourites called “Penne Pesto Chicken Asiago” and I get it far too often. (P.S This dish goes nicely with a one of their infamous bellinis 😉

For my third selected restaurant I knew I just HAD to mention Chesterfield’s Gastro Diner located in Westboro. Chesterfields is a local diner with absolutely amazing food. The menu is well thought-out and personal, the service is great, the people are familiar and it’s a real great environment for great food and company! This restaurant is not only extraordinary for the food but also for the experience. Also I would recommend their eggs benny, it never disappoints 🙂

Next up is one of my all time favourite places to go for a birthday or just for a family occasion because of how high quality as well as DELICIOUS the food is. Baton Rouge is known for their amazing ribs and fries — with good reason. Every time I go I tell myself to be a little adventurous and try something else on the menu but I cannot help myself especially when I have a picture like this saved on my phone. This is definitely not the cheapest option on the list but it’s a very important one because… well just LOOK at that picture!!!

The last restaurant but certainly not the least is St-Hubert. Despite its reputation of being the french version of Swiss Chalet, it is not only different from SW but (in my opinion) 10x better. The list could go on and on about how much I’m obsessed with this restaurant because I go there multiple times a year and every single year for my birthday as well but I’ll just end it here and let you find out for yourselves.

Well there was my list of my Top 5 restaurants to check out while in Ottawa due to both my addiction to them as well as their landmark qualities to the Ottawa identity. The restaurants I mentioned are linked below:

Cacao 70

Chesterfield’s Gastro Diner

Treat yourself tuesday

I think I speak for many people when I say we all need at least one day a week to be relaxed and have time to yourself. Nothing says ‘treat yourself’ like a nice gourmet meal for one which doesn’t cause too much of a hassle. I recently made a dish on a whim which turned out to be one of my new favourite meals! A nice twist on a classic caprese chicken!

All you’re going to need for ingredients are:

  • 1 chicken breast
  • cherry tomatoes
  • boccoccini
  • a pinch of salt
  • a pinch of pepper
  • one tbsp of basil
  • balsamic glaze
  • a handful of spinach

Begin by preheating the oven to 350F. Proceed by taking the chicken breast and sprinkling salt, pepper and basil on both sides. Place that in that oven for 20 mins. While that’s cooking, take your spinach and make a bed of it on your plate. Cut up some cherry tomatoes and spread them out on top. Take out your bocciccini and spread some of those out on top as well. Once the chicken is done, place that in the middle of the plate and top it off with some balsamic glaze lathered on top. And there you have it! A nice simple yet gourmet meal available in 20 mins time. (P.S.This meal is also 10x better with a nice bottle of Jackson Triggs to go with it!)

Till next time! ❤
